DAVYD team proposes to setup a set of technologies enabling the development of control surface (i.e. flap), optimized for the flight of the reference Tilt Rotor platform, herein listed:
-
Composite materials design and manufacturing solutions with a high level of integration, and optimized accessibility for lower complexity, weight and cost;
-
Investigation, technology maturation and possible application and optimization of bonded and/ or co-cured joints, Out of autoclave technologies, composite thermoplastics, Additive layer manufacturing (ALM)
-
Aeroelastic tailoring by means of a MDO approach in the conceptual design
-
Advanced acoustic design, optimization, and testing
DAVYD partners have a good track record in the development of composite control surfaces technologies, having developed the flap system of the Bombardier C-Series aircraft, certified according to FAR/CS-25. In addition, DAVYD partners also participate to the wing development of Leonardo’s NextGenCTR tiltrotor in Clean Sky 2 framework. Partners have long term experience on airframe, jet, propellers, fan and rotorcraft noise prediction and testing (EU projects FRIENDCOPTER, MANOEUVRES, WITTINESS and EASIER).
DAVYD - Project Partners
Clean Sky 2, the largest research program in air transport launched in the Horizon 2020 frame, aims to develop innovative, cutting-edge technology to reduce CO2, NOx, and noise levels. One of the themes that Clean Sky 2 is investigating concerns the novel aircraft configurations and capabilities that will be developed using innovative aircraft demonstrator platforms (IADP). Among these IADPs, there is one dedicated to Fast Rotorcrafts that foresees two flying demonstrators, the first called NextGenCTR (Next Generation of Civil TiltrotoR) lead by Leonardo Helicopters and the second one named RACER (Rapid And Cost-Effective compound Rotorcraft) lead by Airbus Helicopters. These two planned demonstrators will “bridge the gap” between traditional helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, thus providing Europe with new transport capabilities and opening exciting new markets. Both programs have recently envisaged problems related to the two subsystems approached by DAVYD, i.e.: the control surfaces and the landing gear system.
